Mission & Purpose

In 1962, a group of young women interested in serving their community and stimulating their minds while enjoying a program geared towards fun and friendships formed the Junior Women’s Club of Lakewood. Over the years, the Club’s scope has widened but remained true to its original mission. It is a philanthropic organization that sponsors fundraisers throughout the year, with proceeds going to Lakewood organizations, the Scholarship Program, and members of our community.

In 2011, the group made a change to the name of the organization to better reflect the membership, clarify its position in the community and eliminate confusion with a perceived affiliation with Junior League.  Going forward, the Lakewood Women’s Club will continue to be an opening, welcoming group that strives to serve it’s members and it’s community.

Adopt-A-Family for the Holidays! 0

As we discussed, one of our ‘social’s’ for this year involves adopting a Lakewood family in need for Christmas.  The Lakewood Collaborative has been so kind in identifying a family for us.  We are asking you, our members, to help make this Christmas a little brighter for one family by contributing either monetary donations or gifts (see requests below).  We will also be donating proceeds from our Pay-It-Forward night at Jammy Buggar’s towards this family.

We will be adopting the Howell family, Mom is Vickie and she has 5 children, as far as I know Dad is not in the picture, but all children are full siblings.  Here are her little ones (she has twins!):

Keyshawn (boy) – Age 8
Books, especially about presidents and the USA

Stephanie (girl) – Age 7
Barbies

Jayson (boy) – Age 6
Action Figures

Jasmine (girl) – Age 6
Barbies

Veronica (girl) – Age 5
Barbies

We also thought it may be nice to get mom something such as a gift card to Giant Eagle or Aldi’s.  This is such a wonderful cause.  Last year, the Lakewood Collaborative had nine families, and all were adopted.  This year they have eleven, and thus far only one (our’s) has been adopted.
We are hoping to have all donations collected by Wednesday, December 7th.  Please make sure your item is unwrapped and that you’ve provided it with the receipt, so as to avoid duplicates.  Donations may be dropped off with Jillian or Margaret.  Please email lakewoodjuniors@gmail.com for more specifics.
